Names don't ring a bell to me, so they might have been in St Phillips
St Johns Birkdale was the 5th, I think?

Yes,St. John's was the 5th. Think the newspaper photo was wrongly captioned as the 7th..though we did hold our displays at Farnborough Rd Junior School.

It's definitely the 7th, the 5th could never look that smart!

The first captain at the 8th Southport Co. (Crossens Methodist) was Eric Wallwork who lived on the Causeway. The Life Boy leader was Jim (Teddy Bear) Sutton. I was an officer in the 2nd Co. (All Souls') and later captain of the 6th Co. (St. Pauls'). Happy days! I heard just recently of the passing of Bill Johnson, captain of the 2nd Co. for many years. R.I.P. Bill.

So sorry to hear that Frank........Billy Johnson was a great man, he lived opposite me in Cobden Road before he got married, his brother Arthur lived next door to me. If I remember correctly Billy and his older brother John worked at Orry's gents outfitters on Lord Street/Scarisbrick Avenue. How old was he when he passed away? He took over as Captain from Harry Hutchinson who lived at 49 Pitt Street (how do I remember that )
R.I.P. Bill

Barry, old lad! Bill was a couple of years older than me - I think he would have been 82 or 83. I don't remember Bill ever working at Orry's though his father was there for many years. Johnny worked for Wm. Rimmer (real estate). We sold our house in Clifton Road through him. Bill worked at Roddy's in Tulketh Street for years, until he replaced Frank Simm at Bob Martin's. How are you doing, anyway?

Just testing Frank of course you are right.......I think it must have been his other brother Arthur and the father worked at Orry's.

I`m sorry to hear the sad news of Bill Johnson. RIP Bill.
I came to know Arthur very well in the 80`s and 90`s as I taught him and his son Graham to play to play the organ. He was the manager at Orrys for many years, being there all his working life until Orrys went into receivership just before Arthur was due to retire, with the company pension fund having totally disappeared, which he was relying on to see Graham through university. Fortunately the store was taken over by Watson Prickard and Arthur was taken on as manager, but sadly passed away shortly afterwards.
Barrie, for a number of years during B.B. week I used to collect from Mr.Hutchinson`s mother, who lived at 59 Pitt St. which is on the corner of Wennington Rd. Did Harry live at 49 and his mother at 59, or is this another senior moment?
